Commenting on the report recently published by Professor Michael Clarke on local government in Stoke-on-Trent, Stephen O’Brien MP, Shadow Cities Minister for the Potteries said:
“In promoting the best interests of all the people of Stoke-on-Trent I warmly welcome the Report by Professor Michael Clarke and his commission for the future of local representation, democratic engagement, accountability and service delivery in the City.”
“Ultimately the decision as to how the people of Stoke-on-Trent wish to have responsive, efficient high quality City-wide governance must be a matter for them and the Conservative Party strongly endorses that there should be a referendum on a proposed change to a directly elected Mayor. I confirm that the Conservative Party, as the official Opposition, agrees and endorses all 14 recommendations in Professor Clarke’s Report.
We are studying the contents of the Report very carefully.”
