Remember these posters from the 2005 election? They took the credit back then. Now they should take the responsibility:
Unemployment – this of course affects us as the West Midlands has some of the worst constituencies for unemployment.

New figures released today show unemployment has increased by 38,000 in the 3 months to April. There are now 1.64m people unemployed.
Reacting to these new figures Chris Grayling, Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, said:
“The increasing gloom in the jobs market simply underlines the economic challenge that we now face. Gordon Brown’s failure to look after the public finances in the years that the economy was doing well means it’s going to be very difficult to make the changes we now need to ensure that unemployment doesn’t get significantly worse.”
Economy

Commenting on the decision of the European Commission to start disciplinary proceedings against the UK for breaching its economic rules, Shadow Chancellor, George Osborne said:
“Gordon Brown’s reputation for economic incompetence is now international.
“The decision by the European Commission to begin proceedings against the British government is a humiliation for a Prime Minister who used to boast about the comparison with other European countries.
“First the OECD and now the European Commission confirm our charge: that Labour failed to use the good years to prepare for the difficult times and as a result we enter an economic downturn with the worst budget deficit in the developed world.”
